The
Buckhead Velo Club
The
Buckhead Velo Club (BVC) has a long history in Atlanta cycling
dating back its establishment as a mountain bike squad nearly a
decade ago. Today the team is a mainstay on the road with
its familiar and much-admired red, white and blue jerseys
leading races and local group rides.
The BVC's commitment to cycling can be seen throughout Atlanta.
The club frequently takes top-flight junior or young riders
under its wing to offer financial support along with the chance
to train with elite senior riders. Club riders have been
responsible for organizing the best series of training rides
available for local cyclists. The BVC also has been
supportive of local philanthropies. The team has used
sponsorship funds to purchase bicycle helmets for the Shepherd
Center's "Think First" program which teaches children
to avoid common causes of spinal injuries.
In 2005, the BVC will align itself with Camp Twin Lakes to help
promote their newly established "Bicycle Center".
With the help of BVC sponsorship capital, the Club will donate
'hand-cycles' to the Camp's Bicycle Center enabling
handicap children to enjoy the activity of cycling.
The BVC looks forward to continuing this commitment to the
cycling community in 2005. The team plans to maintain its
position as leaders of the local training rides and focus its
racing efforts on masters events. New this year, the BVC
is hosting the First Annual Buckhead Velo Gran Prix in Buckhead
Village on Sunday, October 2. The all day event will
consist of bike races for all levels or cyclists, including race
s for children of all ages. Make sure to mark your
calendars
